Alana Mackay

35+ years of teaching music

Alana Mackay is a music educator with over 35 years of teaching experience. She works with children and adults across piano, voice, musical theatre, and speech arts. She is married, has four grown children, and is a grandmother.

Her belief is simple: every student has unique gifts and potential. She aims to create supportive environments where learners can develop confidence and artistic expression.

The story

How Presto began

The project began when Alana's niece asked for piano instruction for her sons. Recognizing their busy schedules — hockey, horseback riding, homeschooling, and more — Alana designed a self-directed learning kit that children could use whenever it suited the family.

Her approach prioritized accessibility from the start: no weekly scheduling, no screen time. What began as family tutoring grew into a full program that now helps families explore music together at home, bringing enjoyment and connection through learning.

Out in the world

Real smiles, real music

We had a wonderful time with the children and parents at the AHEA Convention in Red Deer, AB — alongside Ethnos Missions Trips and Chicken Scratch Books. We reconnected with old friends and made new ones, and the giant floor piano was a hit with all ages.

"We loved seeing your smiles and hearing your music!"

Congrats to our raffle prize winners — we hope your children enjoy their prizes. Thank you for having us, AHEA!
